  1. Kia ora Shalom,

My name is Olive and I’m one of the new blog commentators in the Kaikohekohe cluster this summer! I’m working the Teaser Week and I’m super excited to see all your blog activities!

Congratulations on completing your first activity! “Check it out” is such a groovy way to include your Pepeha template link! I love your enthusiasm and I’m sure other participating students will find that super helpful when they go to complete this activity.

I’ve never experienced your Marae in person, but Matawaia Marae looks beautiful! Do you often get to visit and connect with your Marae? Perhaps you could make a visit with your friends, or family and post it on your blog! I’m interested to see what you come up with!

Being Pākehā myself, I don’t have any cultural ties to a Marae but I enjoy visiting and paying my respects to them. On one of my teaching experiences, my class and I visited Te Puea Memorial Marae. This Marae considers itself to be an international middle-ground for all tribes. It also does ground-breaking work for families within Auckland area, proving a safe place to rest, shelter and a source of food, water and schooling for long-term residents.

If you ever visit Auckland, be sure to visit the Marae within Auckland museum. It contains a lot of beautiful carvings that represent the history and stories behind the Marae. If you look closely, you’ll find Tangroa, he’s the only carving with a fish tail instead of feet!

Thank you for your lovely blog post and have fun completing the rest of the activities.

Feel free to check out my blog and get to know me a little better!

  2. Kia ora Shalom,

Merry Christmas! I hope you are having a great holiday so far :)

My name is Tayla and I am the Cluster Manager for the Summer Learning Journey in Kaikohekohe. I just wanted to pop in and say that it’s not too late to start the programme! You can find the activities here: https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/weekly-activities

You can do any of the activities, so take a look at some of the options. I’m sure there will be something that you’ll find interesting to learn about.

I hope I get to read some of your work!

    Ngā mihi,
    Tayla
